When your systems grow,
the data flow has to keep pace

Develop backend services that connect industrial data, business logic and applications.

Scattered data and manual intermediate steps make it harder to digitise workflows. New interfaces only help if the services behind them provide information consistently.

IQstruct Engineering develops data and administration layers, web services and industrial applications. Java and Spring are a focus. Databases, messaging and caching are chosen according to the task. APIs connect the shop floor, business logic and the applications that use them; tests and operation are included in the architecture.

Services that connect the shop floor and applications

IQstruct Engineering develops data and administration layers, web services and industrial applications.

Industrial data and manual workflows often sit in separate sources or on paper. A data layer stores, processes and provides this information in a structured way for applications and other systems. Java and Spring are a focus here.

Data storage follows the task: PostgreSQL with TimescaleDB for time series or pgvector for similarity search, relational databases for business data. Messaging decouples services, caching relieves repeated access. The architecture thus stays understandable and manageable in the intended operation.

Backend

The architecture grows with the data flow

Tests, deployment and operation are part of the architecture from the start.

Approach in the project

  1. An architect explains an architecture diagram with components and data paths on the wall screenAi

    1

    Plan the software architecture

Components, interfaces and data paths are defined in an architecture diagram.

  2. A developer writes code with test results on the screen while a colleague watchesAi

    2

    Develop and test

Code, automated tests and reviews are created together.

  3. A developer approves a pipeline for build, test and delivery on the screenAi

    3

    Carry out the deployment

The pipeline builds and deploys once a person has given the release.

  4. A developer follows response times, error rates and server load on the screen, a server rack beside herAi

    4

    Monitor the application

Logs, server load and status displays are reviewed together.

Tools chosen by task

Language, data storage and operation are chosen according to the task and the customer environment.

Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic Stack and OpenTelemetry support logging and monitoring.

Project experience

Calculating overnight prices for TUI Villas

Providing individual pricing logic in a cloud application.

For TUI Villas, IQstruct Engineering developed a backend in AWS that calculates overnight prices for holiday homes. The project connects individual business rules with deployment in a cloud environment. Domain logic and operation are part of the same application. That experience is relevant for industrial backends as well, where customer-specific calculations and existing data sources have to be brought together.

Frequently asked questions

We are glad to answer your detailed questions in a personal conversation.

Does every backend need microservices or Kubernetes?

The architecture depends on scope and operating requirements. We use Kubernetes when operation calls for it.

How is the software operated?

Containerised with Docker, orchestrated with Kubernetes and Helm where needed. Terraform describes the infrastructure as code; operation and support are organised per project.

Which processes have you already digitised?

Among others, a handwritten route card process and a tool management system for measurement reports and settings.
