Your production delivers more
than single measured values.

Controllers, meters and sensors hold information for analysis, maintenance and business systems.

In a machine park that has grown over time, protocols, signal names and sampling rates differ. Some values are available directly, others only through additional devices. Without agreed time stamps and plant assignment, data accumulates that has to be reworked at length later. Suitable acquisition therefore considers at the source which information is needed and how completeness and continuous transmission can be checked.

In a free first conversation we clarify which plants are to be captured, what their controllers already deliver and where measuring equipment is added.

Scope of services

Open up existing sources

PLCs, energy and media meters and other devices with interfaces are connected.

Align acquisition with the signal

Slow process values and fast events receive the acquisition rate they need.

Make data available

Aurora passes the values on to local analyses and downstream systems.

From the source to the handover

IQstruct Engineering first checks the existing interfaces and the information that is actually needed.

Device connection, acquisition frequency, local storage and handover to the target systems are then defined. Siemens controller adapters, OPC UA and REST connect machines and devices; MQTT adds data brokering.

Not every value needs the same polling frequency and retention. Slow temperature changes allow different intervals from short machine events. If a connection drops, data can be buffered locally; this decision is made before implementation so that the later analysis matches the data base.

The customer receives an installed system with data access, operating documentation and an overview of the network and measuring points.

Data base

Production and energy data arrive where decisions are made

Quantities, operating states and consumption are available in a shared data base for analysis and target systems.

Approach in the project

  1. Three people record the machines of a hall at a table, the overview with OPC UA, Modbus and IO-Link on the wall screenAi

    1

    Record machines and protocols

Modbus devices, controllers and IO-Link masters are recorded with their interfaces.

  2. Two people set up an OPC UA adapter with connection settings and node selection on a monitorAi

    2

    Configure Aurora

Adapters and data flow are set up in Aurora without programming.

  3. Three people in a meeting room discuss a dashboard with power curves, energy balance and an asset tableAi

    3

    Check incoming energy data

Current values, timestamps and trends arrive in the dashboard and are checked.

  4. Three people derive measures from energy and production trends on the wall screenAi

    4

    Discuss results and measures

Customer and specialists derive measures from energy and production trends.

Experience from research

Data from excavators for digital twins

In the research project Off-Highway Twins 2, IQstruct Engineering used edge technology on excavators and transmitted data streams from LiDAR, 3D cameras and virtual sensors via MQTT to a cloud environment.

Production data and documents in HYRESS

In the research project HYRESS, IQstruct Engineering captures production data and documents in asset administration shells on an AAS server it operates itself.

Data sources and our own middleware

The connection depends on the controller, the device and the target system.

For special cases, software development adds custom adapters.

Energy data monitoring at a brick works

Looking at energy and production together at a backing brick works.

IQstruct Engineering has delivered energy data monitoring for a backing brick works. The solution brings together values from transformer stations, the photovoltaic system and the combined heat and power plant with production data. Consumption can therefore be viewed in relation to the batches produced. Meter trends are available individually, aggregated and historically. The example shows why a single meter reading does not yet provide a reliable statement about the energy demand of a production step.

Frequently asked questions

We are glad to answer your detailed questions in a personal conversation.

Is buffering included for every connection loss?

Buffering is an option and is agreed for each data source. High-frequency measurements are coordinated with measurement engineering.

Which sources can be connected?

PLCs, energy and media meters and other devices with interfaces. At the brick works named above these included transformer stations, the photovoltaic system and the combined heat and power plant.

What do you receive at the end?

An installed system with data access, operating documentation and an overview of the network and measuring points.
