In the joint project Fluid 4.0, manufacturers, users, research and associations bring fluid power into a data space across industries and manufacturers. Asset administration shells and submodels describe components and systems over their whole life cycle.

What it is about

Manufacturers, machine and plant builders, operators and service providers work with data on components, engineering, operation, energy and reuse. Without a shared description, this data is transferred by hand or kept in manufacturer specific solutions. Fluid 4.0 develops submodels of the asset administration shell, the standardised digital description of a product, for four use cases: collaborative engineering and control development, energy monitoring, carbon accounting and circular economy. The submodels are exchanged through a shared data space, and an interaction concept governs how asset administration shells work together at component and system level. The project volume is 13.4 million euros.

Our contribution

Our sub-project is called “Sustainability oriented edge-to-cloud integration in I4.0 value networks”. We define and implement software with edge-to-cloud components that makes energy and carbon data traceable across value networks. In the definition phase we work mainly on the use cases energy monitoring and carbon accounting. The work follows the work packages: define data structures and interfaces, implement them on trial and validate them in demonstrators.

What comes out of it

The tested solutions lead to one demonstrator per use case, open to the public as a test environment. New submodels go into standardisation at IDTA, ECLASS and ISO. Based on the asset administration shell, we develop connectors and modules for linking fluid power systems and add them to our offer for small and medium sized companies. A transfer to further industries such as commercial vehicles and agriculture is planned.
